It's time.

Over 12,000 years ago, receding glaciers carved the pristine lakes, deep gorges, and spectacular  waterfalls of the Finger Lakes Region. Lush sunflower fields, acres of vineyards, year-round and seasonal residences, farmland and forests line the shores of our 11 lakes. It's time this celebrated region had a museum of its own.

Imagine a place that inspires, educates, and entertains.

Imagine a place where centuries of cultural and natural history come to life.

Imagine the Finger Lakes Museum.

Our Mission

Our mission is to inspire appreciation and stewardship of the cultural heritage and ecological evolution of the vast Finger Lakes Region.

Our Goal

Our goal is to create a place that offers unparalleled, experiential immersion in the understanding of the Finger Lakes Region. Through educational programming, interactive exhibits, and informal play, we aim to educate and inspire.

FLM campus

The FLM site, located in Branchport, consists of the former Branchport School building, being renovated to house exhibits, educational programs, and community events; Our 13-acre campus with bioswales, a riparian zone along Sugar Creek, turf paver parking, and interpretive signs, timber frame lean-tos, the Creekside Center canoe and kayak livery, and an ADA accessible launch/dock; The 16 acre Townsend-Grady Wildlife Preserve.

The Townsend-Grady Wildlife Preserve

The Townsend-Grady Wildlife Preserve has served as a natural water filtration system for over 160 square miles of agricultural and residential runoff for thousands of years. The FLM has developed trails, a boardwalk leading to a shoreline octagon pavilion, and interpretive signs for the Preserve.

Milestones

While living its mission through programming, the FLM has also been updating facilities on-site, while continually raising funds towards establishing a permanent museum building at its property.

FLM's main building

Building goals include: exterior improvements, plantings and wayfinding signs, and interior buildout with exhibits.
